The Charles Bang - Oh Claudia
The Charles Bang debut album will be released this summer and this is its lead single. We could have chosen any number of awe-inspiring tracks and it would have given you a completely different impression of what to expect from the Charles Bang. In the end, we chose this emotionally rich, sugar-lined rock-n-roll ballad that likens itself to some Harry Potter-esque magical year that existed in between 1964 and 1965; only you need to believe it is there to enter and understand its ethereal wonder.
But the earnest delivery and touchingly nostalgic vibe will mislead one who wishes to understand the Charles Bang. On the whole, the music is terse, tight, unrelenting, and the guitar. Musically, we are dealing with Delta by way of the Ganges. Blues comps of the strangest harmony you’re likely to hear all season—but it sounds right! Righter than anything yet maybe! With visionaries at all parts of this trio (guitar, bass, drums) this is a group to begin following now…

Lasso - Raga Futura
A dystopian synthesis of east-west raga rock. The second track to come out of Lasso Undone further explores world musics to scintillating effects. Pedal steel and wobbly synth ornament a terse Indian break beat intertwined with orientally moded guitar. Andrew John Tar sagely singtalks from a weathered, late-era Eastwoodian perspective. “I’ve been around the world and back again and you’re all freaks,” Catlin seems to bemoan. The chorus hits on the downbeat and feels like a cavalcade of what is Future: The Awesome, Impending Nowness.
Note: There are several versions of Blade Runner. There are several ports of Bushido Blade. Lasso is a multiverse. Lincoln and Lao Tzu having tea.

Meng, Mountain over Water: In this hexagram we are reminded of youth and folly in two different ways. The image of the upper trigram, Kên, is the mountain, that of the lower, K’an, is water; the spring rising at the foot of the mountain is the image of inexperienced youth. Keeping still is the attribute of the upper trigram; that of the lower is the abyss, danger. Stopping in perplexity on the brink of a dangerous abyss is a symbol of the folly of youth.
